“The first task in approaching another people, another culture, another religion, is to take off our shoes for the place we are approaching is holy. Else we find ourselves treading on people’s dreams, worse we forget that God was there before our arrival.”
-Bishop Kenneth Craig
After almost six weeks, I have been joined by my mom, brother, and friend Elle Lichte! I am so excited for them to be here and the quote above is a great reminder as they embark on this lovely week ahead. We have been busy all day getting situated and they are starting to unload their suitcases full of donations as we speak. I am so overjoyed for them to be with me and Open Arms is very blessed with their brief, yet impactful stay.
Jeanien, the psychologist, came this week and I was able to have several long talks regarding my two boys as well as several psychological concepts. On Friday she took over my classroom and I sat in the back and took notes just observing her interactions and discipline with the boys. I am hoping that I will be able to take over her styles and techniques and adapt them into my own teaching methods as well. I am looking forward to having an experimental week in the classroom and then enjoying my time with my family as well! We head to Cape Town on Thursday for a long weekend and I cannot wait to be there and relax.
